Greenwood announces pick for new police chief
A few months after Greenwood’s police chief stepped down, the town has announced a successor.
Phillip Thomas of Felton will take over for Chief Brent Raughley, who resigned Nov. 16. Raughley had served as chief since April 2017.
Thomas will start Monday.
The town held a special meeting in January and voted to make a job offer afterward, but did not say who the candidate was. Greenwood announced the new chief at its Zoom-only town meeting on Wednesday.
Sgt. J.P. Cullen had served as the officer in charge in the months after Raughley stepped down. The police department said at the time that Raughley had accepted a position at another department.
Thomas is currently a member of the Lake Forest School Board. He went through the Delaware State Police Academy in 2002 and before his hiring as Greenwood’s chief was a sergeant for the Felton Police Department, according to his board bio.
“He'll do a very good job, I have no doubt of that,” Mayor Donald Donovan said Wednesday.
Thomas ran for school board in 2017. He told the Harrington Journal then that he had lived in the district all his life.
